What is GoStandby?

GoStandby is an online booking platform that enables tourism operators to offer seats to potential customers. GoStandby does not operate any tours but sellers and buyers of tourism activities. Unlike other online booking platforms GoStandby sells two kinds of seats – Standby seats and BuyNow seats. It’s main aim is to provide tourism operators with a way to sell their unsold seats at the last minute while providing buyers with great deals.

What is a BuyNow booking?

A BuyNow booking is confirmed booking. When you purchase BuyNow seats, your credit card is accepted and your seat is reserved for you.

What is a Standby booking?

Operators can offer some seats for purchase on a standby basis. Depending on how many spaces are unsold, operators can accept or cancel the booking. In other words, there is no guarantee that you will be able to do the activity.

If a standby booking is accepted, your credit card will get charged and the booking is considered to be confirmed. Until then it is considered to be pending and your credit card will not be charged.

How do I make a Standby booking? What happens after I make a standby booking?

Making a Standby booking is like making any other booking. You select the number of standby seats on the particular trip you want, put in your credit card details and make the booking. However, unlike a BuyNow seat, your credit card is not charged.

Every trip has a time limit by when the standby booking must be accepted by the operator. This deal closing time is shown on multiple locations on the website as well as your Standby booking receipt. The operators can accept or confirm the booking any time between when the booking is made and the time at which the deal closes. Usually this is anywhere between 2 hours to 20 minutes before the trip departs/starts.

You can cancel your booking any time before the operator accepts the booking. If the operator cancels the booking, you don’t have to do anything, the booking is cancelled automatically, and you get notified by email. If the booking is accepted by the operator you will be notified via email. Once the booking is accepted, you cannot cancel the booking unless it is in line with the cancellation policy of the operator.

Please make sure you can get to the operator in time to check in.

Do you charge my credit card for a Standby booking?

When you make a Standby booking we do not charge your credit card. We only check to make sure the credit card is valid. If your booking is confirmed by the operator, only then is the credit card charged.

Do I need to bring a printout to check-in with the operator?

No, all you need to do is give the operator your booking reference number and name. Or show the operator your confirmation email on your phone.

How do I get a refund?

Please get in touch with us at bookings@gostandby.co.nz with your name and booking reference and let us know the reason for the refund request. If your reason for cancellation is not in breach of the operators cancellation policy, we will be able to process the refund to the credit card the booking was made with.

What happens if the operator cancels the trip?

If the operator cancels the trip for any reason we will process the refund. Please get in touch with us at bookings@gostandby.co.nz with your name and booking reference.

How do I make changes to my booking?

If you would like to make changes to the booking, please contact the operator directly.

Can I cancel a Standby booking?

Yes, you can cancel a Standby booking yourself from your My Bookings page as long as the operator hasn’t accepted the booking. Your credit card will not be charged so cancelling a standby booking will not require a refund. However, once the Standby booking is accepted, your standby seats are treated as a confirmed seat and the operator’s terms and conditions/cancellation policy comes into effect.

Can I cancel a confirmed booking?

Sorry you cannot cancel a confirmed booking with GoStandby. If you wish to cancel a booking, please contact the operator directly. If your cancellation is allowed within the operator’s terms and conditions/cancellation policy and/or if they agree, please get in touch with us for a refund request at bookings@gostandby.co.nz. We will verify the refund request with the operator and then issue the refund.
